Working at Home Pros

Pros

No More Driving - No longer do you have to join the rat race to get to work by 8:00. I live in Minnesota, so in the winter the morning commute can be very ugly. I no longer have to suffer thru this. I also am saving a ton of money on gas as well as use my vehicle only on weekends.

Eat Healthier - Now that I get to eat all of my meals at home, I save a ton of money on fast food. Not to mention, now I can eat more healthier meals as I have full access to my kitchen.

Workout at Lunch - I usually go use the treadmill during my lunch.

Safety - I used to worry about getting robbed during the day. Maybe it's me being paranoid, but I always thought if people knew me and my wife were gone from 8:00 - 5:00 Monday through Friday, that's a huge opening to steal my stuff. Now that I'm always home, I feel that my home and our belongings are very safe.

Tax Breaks - I get to write off a ton of stuff now that I work from home.

Entertainment - I can have music playing as loud as I want. I also can have the Price Is Right going in the background if I want.

No Micro-Management - At my old company, I had like 6 bosses. All of them checking up on me constantly. This really killed productivity as I had to explain to each person what I was doing, etc. I get to use my own computer and equipment. No longer do I have to worry about having mp3 files on a work computer, or worry about a supervisor checking your browsing history, etc. I no longer have to worry about a supervisor checking my call history and getting "In trouble" for too many personal calls.

Childcare - I can now be around when my child gets off the bus. I can take care of him when he's sick. My wife no longer has to miss work for a sick child.

Appearance - I can now work in shorts, or my underwear if I wish. I can not shave, not shower, whatever. I no longer have to buy business casual clothes.

Hours - I can create my own hours. I usually work more than 40 hours, but I can start late and work late or vice-versa. My time is my own.

Socializing - No longer do I have to socialize with people I don't like. Before I'd get people stopping by my office to tell me about their weekend, etc. Most of the people I really didn't even like that much. Sounds harsh, but it's true. How often do you have that annoying person at work who gloms onto you telling you ever little detail of their boring life.

Pets - I can now pay more attention to my animals. My dog gets to go outside whenever he wants. No more destroyed stuff or piles on the floor.

Household duties - I can now do a load of laundry or dishes if I wish. I can also have dinner ready when the family comes home.

Enjoy the Weather - Sometimes I'll take my laptop out on the patio and work outside. In Minnesota, it's rare to have nice weather so you really need to enjoy it whenever you can.
