Google Acquires Feedburner

Google has acquired Feedburner. It's official, Google is taking over the world. It amazes me every day how big Google has gotten, in such a short time. I think if they continue as planned, they will own everything cool on the web. I wonder what effects this will have on the Feedburner interface?

What do you think about this?

Google Sandbox

Before your new blog can appear on the results pages of Google, you must spend some time in the "Sandbox." The Sandbox is the theory where new sites are placed in a holding area in the indexes of Google. Eventually, Google will release your site and will assign your site a PageRank. Most new sites will spend an average of about 3-6 months in the Sanbox.  read more »

Google Supplemental Index

The Google Supplemental Index is something that most site owners know absolutely nothing about. Let’s face it, I don’t know much about it either. I just know that having pages listed in the Supplemental Index is not a good thing.

Pages that are in the Google Supplemental Index are there because they are trusted less. Since these pages are crawled less frequently and have less resources diverted toward them, it makes sense that Google does not rank these pages as high as pages in the regular search index.  read more »

Adsense A/B Testing

Google is now allowing you to A/B test your ad blocks. An A/B test allows you to run two different types of AdSense ads that rotate with different configurations so that you can test which one works best for your site.

You’ll need to set up channels for each ad block to track the results. Go here http://adsense.blogspot.com/2006/08/abcs-of-ab-testing.html to get the javascript code that they suggest you can use to run an A/B Test with your AdSense.  read more »

First Page of Google

How tough is it to get on the first page of Google? Well that is an interesting question. Sometimes not as tough as you’d think. It all depends on what your keywords are.

The great thing about a blog is, each article you write, you focus on different keywords. So eventually you will have hundreds of different keywords…hundreds of different ways for people to find you.  read more »

Did Google Ban My Site?

Google will occasionally ban sites who have duplicate or stolen content as well as questionable content matter such as gambling, adult content, etc. There are several reasons Google doesn’t want sites to be indexed.

My thoughts are don’t swear, don’t have adult content or gambling, and most of all write your own content. Make sure it is good, original content. Google will love you. Check Google’s Terms of Service, they spell everything out for you.

Check to see if you are banned by Google.

The Google Sandbox

Some other bloggers and I have been trying to unlock the secret to the Google sandbox. The Google Sandbox is a phenomenon in which your new site sits for a period of time before it gets indexed by Google. Google does not offer any information about the sandbox, they act like it doesn’t even exist…area 51.

The strange thing is, I’ve seen sites get out of the Google Sandbox after a month, other sites taking up to six months. It is all very confusing. I’ve been trying to gather as much info as I can to try to better understand this.  read more »
