Google Supplemental Index

The Google Supplemental Index is something that most site owners know absolutely nothing about. Let’s face it, I don’t know much about it either. I just know that having pages listed in the Supplemental Index is not a good thing.

Pages that are in the Google Supplemental Index are there because they are trusted less. Since these pages are crawled less frequently and have less resources diverted toward them, it makes sense that Google does not rank these pages as high as pages in the regular search index.

To check to see what you have in the Supplemental Index you can type this into the Google search box:

site:www.siteURL.com *** -sljktf

This will tell you exactly what Google is considering less trusted content and placing in the Supplemental Index.

SEO Book http://www.seobook.com/archives/002047.shtml had a nice article on how to keep things out of the Google Supplemental Index.
