Getting Your Social Network off the Ground
I've recently converted all of my WordPress sites into tightly niched social networking sites. Which I'm hoping will be more successful than just a blog. I'm hoping these sites can be a myspace for each particular niche.
The hard part is, getting things rolling. I have the sites built and I have a ton of content, but I just don't have warm bodies. Right now if you visit the site, it looks busy, until you go to the message board. Nothing happening.
The catch 22 is, nobody wants to use a site that isn't buzzing. So getting people to sign up and use it right now is very challenging. How did Myspace get so big? How did Youtube get people to use it at first?
I think this is a subject that should be really researched. This will be my life's work for the next 6 months or so. I will post things as I learn them, but if you have any thoughts on the subject please let me know.
